Our Opportunity

 

Location: Fortescue’s Hedland Operations – on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people

 

Roster: 4 Days On / 3 Days Off

 

Fortescue is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Specialist Track Maintenance professional to join our Rail Operations team in Port Hedland. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity, reliability and performance of our heavy haul rail infrastructure, ensuring safe and efficient operations across our network.

Reporting to the Track Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a key role in executing planned and corrective maintenance activities across Fortescue’s rail network. You will bring technical expertise, strong problem-solving capability and a proactive approach to safety and continuous improvement.

This position operates on a 4 days on / 3 days off roster, offering stability and work-life balance while being home every night in Port Hedland.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections, maintenance and fault finding on rail track infrastructure
  • Perform track renewals, turnout maintenance and defect rectification
  • Monitor track condition and ensure compliance with standards and safety requirements
  • Operate and maintain specialised track maintenance equipment
  • Contribute to shutdown planning and execution
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and reporting

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in heavy haul rail track maintenance
  • Certificate IV in Rail Infrastructure (or equivalent) highly regarded
  • Sound knowledge of track standards, geometry and defect management
  • Experience operating specialised track machinery
  • Strong commitment to safety leadership and hazard identification
  • Current C Class Driver’s Licence (essential)
  • HR licence and relevant rail competencies desirable
